Traditional Villages of Corfu

February 2026  |  6 min read

Beyond the beaches and bustling resorts, Corfu hides a treasure trove of traditional villages where time seems to have stood still. Winding through olive groves and up mountain roads, you'll discover stone houses, ancient churches, and a pace of life that reminds us what Greece is truly about.

Mountain Villages Worth Visiting

Old Perithia (Palia Perithia)

This abandoned Venetian village at the foot of Mount Pantokrator is Corfu's oldest settlement. Once home to 1,200 people, it was deserted in the 1960s as residents moved to the coast. Today, several tavernas have reopened, serving traditional food in restored stone buildings.

Lakones

Known as the "Balcony of the Ionian," Lakones offers the most spectacular views of Paleokastritsa's bays. The village's cafes, especially the famous "Bella Vista," provide perfect spots to admire the scenery while enjoying Greek coffee.

Getting There from Efzin Villa

Most villages are 30-50 minutes from our villa. The mountain roads are winding but scenic. We recommend renting a car for flexibility, as public transport to villages is limited. Ask us for our favorite taverna recommendations!
